Conjures Musical Magic
‘Outside The Lines’
For Album Release Concert
April 24 at The Royal Room
In her teens, Seattle singer-songwriter Tae (pronounced “Tay”) Phoenix honed her three-octave range by singing opera and musical theatre before transitioning to singing and playing jazz and blues, writing her own music, and accompanying herself on the piano.
In her sophomore album, “Outside the Lines” Phoenix makes those jazz and blues influences readily apparent. Her agile, powerful voice and mature songwriting are both well showcased by her excellent band, featuring Robert VonFeldt on keys, Matthew Wexler on bass, and Michael Ahrens on drums.
“Outside the Lines” was a collaboration with local producer / saxophonist Dave Miner (Julia Massey and the Five Finger Discount, Imagine the Giant) and featured many local guests including Massey, Whitney Mongé, Larson Haakenstad, David Klein (Phoenix’s younger brother), and Ned Beebe. It will be available on iTunes on March 11th and celebrated with a release party at Seattle’s Royal Room on April 24th at 7pm.
Phoenix has performed in such far flung places as London, Paris, and Surabaya, Indonesia. Her favorite performances so far have been her performance at Brooklands Radio in London, her showcases at the SXSW music festival in 2012 and 2014, her performance of the national anthem at a home game for her beloved Seattle Mariners, and especially her appearance at Seattle’s legendary Paramount Theater with the Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Center youth arts troupe in 2001.
Please let us know if you need anything Tae Phoenix-related! She’s going on a West Coast Tour after this date — and then the St. Lucia Jazz Festival in the Caribbean! We’ll be in touch about those show dates, and they’re all on her website. Please let us know what you need a CD. By the way: This album was 100% fan-funded!
